NEXT MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCOPING STUDY
on Neutrino Factories and Superbeams
at KEK 23-25 Jan. 2006

*Message from Peter Dornan, Chair of the ISS*

The first meeting of the ISS took place at CERN from Sep 22- 24. It was a
great success with over 90 people registering, despite the short notice. On
the 22nd and the afternoon of the 23rd there were parallel group meeting of
the three working groups, accelerator, detector and physics, and joint
plenary meetings on the mornings of the 22nd and 23rd. The aim was to
devise a work/wish list for the outcome of the year’s investigations. This
was achieved and details can be found on the transparencies, available from
the website http://hepunx.rl.ac.uk/uknf/wp4/scoping/ . The difficult part
to turn these aims into reality now begins. Our thanks go to Alain Blondel
and Patricia Perreard for the splendid organisation.

Our next meeting will be at KEK from January 23 to 25 and so please note it
in your diaries. Details concerning registration and accommodation will be
announced in November. For many this will be quite expensive but I believe
by then we shall have a central fund which will be able to provide a
limited amount of support towards travel costs.

There is now a lot to do and I would like to repeat my request during the
meeting that we do try hard to involve and enthuse as many students and
young post-docs as possible. They will have the task of carrying this
forward.

Best wishes,

  Peter
